As we all know, Black Friday is a day when many businesses offer large discounts for their products and services, in the hope of attracting more sales and customers.
Mintel, an independent market analysis company, estimated that total sales during Black Friday 2022 reached an approximately £12.3 billion, with £3.95 billion being spent in Britain. Amazon was the top retailer. However, with 80% of products bought during this period ending up in landfill shortly thereafter, together with the current cost of living crisis, Green Friday and Colour Friday offer alternative perspectives worth looking into.
Green Friday: Sustainability over Profit.
Green Friday was launched to raise awareness of the impact our shopping habits can have on the planet. It focuses on improving sustainability, particularly around customers’ spending and consumption. The goal is to encourage customers to shop more mindfully, whilst also focusing on its ethos:
- Getting active, healthy and out in nature.
- Spending time with friends and family.
- Giving, sharing and investing in worthwhile causes.
More information on how businesses can get involved in Green Friday, and broaden their vision into the future, can be found at www.greenfriday.org.uk.
Calibre’s Core Value: Sustainability
Calibre Virtual Assistant Services’ core value of sustainability goes hand in hand with the Green Friday ethos. We pride ourselves on the whole company structure being sustainable and environmentally conscious. We also enjoy investing in worthwhile causes, such as supporting charity, with our main charity of choice being the NSPCC.
Colour Friday: Campaign Shop Independent
Colour Friday was launched 3 years ago by Holly Tucker from Holly & Co. It encourages customers to “vote with their money” for the kind of world they want to live in, one that supports small businesses. Not every small business can afford to offer discounts but if every person bought just one item from a small business this year, a vital £2.7 billion would be reallocated.
If you’re a founder, check out Holly’s free Colour Friday kit, which includes free social media templates, free video content and other ideas on how to spread joy by supporting small businesses.
Calibre: Supporting Small Business
In addition to supporting small businesses through the services we provide, did you know that we currently have an offer for select small businesses to advertise their products and services for free in our newsletter? If you would like to know more about this, please do not hesitate to email me at info@calibrevaservices.com.
